A world-class business education in a single volume.
  • Getting an MBA is an expensive choice-one almost impossible to justify regardless of the state of the economy. Even the elite schools like Harvard and Wharton offer outdated, assembly-line programs that teach you more about PowerPoint presentations and unnecessary financial models than what it takes to run a real business. You can get better results (and save hundreds of thousands of dollars) by skipping B-school altogether.
  • Josh Kaufman founded PersonalMBA.com as an alternative to the business school boondoggle. His blog has introduced hundreds of thousands of readers to the best business books and most powerful business concepts of all time. Now, he shares the essentials of entrepreneurship, marketing, sales, negotiation, operations, productivity, systems design, and much more, in one comprehensive volume. The Personal MBA distills the most valuable business lessons into simple, memorable mental models that can be applied to real-world challenges.

The Personal MBA explains concepts such as:
  • The Iron Law of the Market: Why every business is limited by the size and quality of the market it attempts to serve-and how to find large, hungry markets.
  • The 12 Forms of Value: Products and services are only two of the twelve ways you can create value for your customers.
  • The Pricing Uncertainty Principle: All prices are malleable. Raising your prices is the best way to dramatically increase profitability-if you know how to support the price you're asking.
  • 4 Methods to Increase Revenue: There are only four ways a business can bring in more money. Do you know what they are?

True leaders aren't made by business schools-they make themselves, seeking out the knowledge, skills, and experience they need to succeed. Read this book and you will learn the principles it takes most business professionals a lifetime of trial and error to master.

    Essential book for entrepreneurs
Josh Kaufman totally changed my life with his Personal MBA : I created a French blog to speak about it and the books, and to explain how I use all what I learn by reading the books.

An Amazing Collection of Business Knowledge
I've been running businesses since I was 19, and though I'm largely an autodidact when it comes to my entrepreneurial education, I've been reading as many books on the subject as I could grab.

Fantastic and practical distillation of critical business concepts
While this is not meant to be an exhaustive resource on every topic you would learn in an MBA, it provides a fantastic PRACTICAL overview of dozens of concepts critical to really understanding how business works. A great tool to think about a new venture or an existing business - I actually sat down with my business partner the first night I got it and used it as a discussion starter to clarify our value proposition for a new venture we are starting. Overall, refreshing in its simplicity, clarity, and lack of pretentiousness.

If I could only read 1 business book this would be it
Too many business books focus on such a small subset of business topics that it is difficult to see the big picture and understand what you need to know to actually start a successful business. Well, not anymore. I read Josh's book and I was amazed at how well thought out and comprehensive it was. He goes though every aspect of business - explaining in detail every cog in the business machine and how each of them fit together to work in harmony. I learned about creating value, marketing what I create, selling it, keeping track of the finances, how to lead a team and negotiate along the way, how to manage myself and how to optimize every aspect of this process from a systematized approach. This truly is a revolutionary book that will make many overpriced business schools cringe. The secret is finally out - get this book and start your business. There are no more excuses.

Business concepts explained in simple words
The reason I have given 4 stars and not 5 stars rating is that the book and author are trying to create a hype that one can master business education just by reading books starting with this one.

Getting an MBA for Dummies without the cost
This book could easily have been called THE IDIOT'S GUIDE TO GETTING AN MBA(without the cost of money AND lost opportunity) or GETTING AN MBA FOR DUMMIES. [In case you think "dummies" write these, note that that Zig Ziglar wrote SUCCESS FOR DUMMIES and Dave Thomas of Wendy's fame wrote FRANCHISING FOR DUMMIES.]

How to create and run a business
The Personal MBA covers a wide range of business topics, and does it well. It's packed full of information on how to create and run a business. It covers value creation, marketing, sales, financing, negotiating, operations, and even personal productivity.

Concise book about business in general
Coming from a computer science background with no MBA, I wish I had read such a book when I ventured into business with a classmate back in college. While the end result was financially fulfilling, I believe we could have done things differently and more efficiently, in terms of sales, service, etc. I have since moved on to working in corporate America and learned a lot of the fundamentals laid out in this book through trial and error. After reading the book, I believe that anyone armed with knowledge contained will benefit greatly as an enterpreneur or a career person.
