Why Grockit Exist

Grockit was created to improve the learning outcomes of students by applying the power of social networks, adaptive algorithms, and gaming mechanics to the process of learning and education. What is Grockit

Grockit is a pretty simple idea – use social gaming technology and Web 2.0 infrastructure to create a fun learning environment for students. However, the technology underpinning Grockit is extremely sophisticated and took years to develop. The Grockit Collaborative Learning Platform is:
  • Web-based - There’s no software to download or install
  • Diagnostic - Using an IRT-based assessment engine we pinpoint a child’s academic strengths and weaknesses
  • Prescriptive - Every student receives a personalized study plan customized to his or her academic strengths and weaknesses
  • Adaptive - Our system tracks each student’s progress and continually adapts the study plan so that students receive the necessary instruction and are challenged at the appropriate level
  • Engaging - By using social networking technology and online gaming mechanics Grockit makes learning fun and increases time on task
  • Effective - The Grockit platform is proven effective in increasing student learning and achievement

The Products

Grockit helps prepare students for standardized tests including the SAT, ACT, GMAT, GRE and LSAT. Grockit also provides a comprehensive curriculum in Math and English Language Arts aligned to state standards for students in grades 7 - 12 to improve their skills inside and outside the classroom.

The Name

“Grockit” is a play on the word “grok” which was coined by Robert Heinlein in his book Stranger in a Strange Land. According to Webster, “Grok” means “to understand profoundly and intuitively.” After using Grockit, students “grok” the subjects they have studied.

    Can I say AMAZING?!
Now with one month to go, the action plan is to learn how to manipulate this test and of course actually start the application process i.e. essays. In order to strategize for my upcoming war with the GMAT, this past weekend I took a 2 day, 18 hour, super intensive strategy focused course, The Grockit Essentials. Can I say amazing? Of course, I had the honor of being taught by Brian Galvin and Matt Douglas. I say "honor", because Brian Galvin is AMAZING; knows his material in and out, has clear cut methodologies of explaining them (even to idiots like me), engaging enough that I didn't fizzle out through the 9 hr session, but also didn't pace too quickly or too slowly. While grueling and jam-packed with info, it was probably the best investment I've made thus far in this whole GMAT process. The take-aways from the class were so valuable and added another dimension to the weekly Grockit course I'm taking. The combo was great because there wasn't a lot of overlap. The course provides more of a skill set and the Essentials course gives you the strategies to utilize the skill set in different ways. It's nice too because it's all digital so as long as you have internet and speakers, you're good to go. I highly recommend the 2 day boot camp, but more so recommend taking the course specifically with Brian Galvin.

    Very helpful!
Teacher was very effective and completely willing to stay after class, come early, etc. Questions were encouraged and were always answered effectively. The course is certainly intense and I recommend at least an initial knowledge of the GMAT, what's on it, timing, etc. My score raised 90 points; I attribute this largely to the course but it certainly helped to have taken the test first.

Hone your time management and presence of mind
Grockit is by far one of the best ways to start off your GMAT preparation. With it's well designed UI and simple philosophy of shooting you with questions one after the other in a timed environment, it is a straightforward and addictive practice solution.

It was especially useful to be able to review answers, read alternate explanations and watch my strengths and weaknesses analyzed in real-time. Using Grockit definitely helped me achieve my 99 percentile score.

    Highly recommended!

    Great
If you have run out of Official guide questions, Grockit questions seem to be very much similar to the OG questions.

Grockit is much better than practicing from any other site, where people misguide.

    Must use..

    Grockit
Grockit is a great course but I have found some problems:

    - The time to answer the questions 2 min 30 sec is not the time per question that you should take in the real test.
    - There are a lot of question repeated.
    - The level of the questions is not as difficult as it is in the real test.
    - The Grockit's CAT test is not accurate. It is not really a CAT and you can find questions in the test that you have answered before.

Grockit - Excellent course and excellent instructor!
My instructor, Shanna, was helpful, accommodating, and extraordinarily competent when it came to specific GMAT instruction. Not only was she able to help me build the essential math and verbal skills necessary for success on the GMAT, but she was also able to present the material in an effective and engaging manner. As the course was a whirlwind in GMAT essentials, I believe that without Shanna's excellent instruction, I would not have been nearly as successful. Additionally, Grockit Prep was professional and helpful throughout every step of my GMAT preparation process. Overall, I feel that I got top-notch service with an excellent instructor and an outstanding program through Grockit Prep.

    Great for Practice
Grockit, I feel, is working very hard to give new features all the time. But there seems to be a problem that rises to it.

First the bugs. There are a few. Grockit introduced timed solo practice tests, and untimed solo practice tests. The untimed solo practice tests seem to have been disappeared. Also. Grockit has a great feature that after answering a certain number of questions, you can take a "Challenge test". My math test are no longer valid. Perhaps it could be that I am only allowed so many Challenge Quant tests, but the user interface should inform me, rather than not do anything. For reading comprehension, Grockit seems to have alloted a lot of time for each reading comprehension question - which is not at all what should be there on the GMAT

But again, its a great way to practice questions. I would recommend it for the quant section. I also have faith that Grockit will improve considerably for their GMAT section, since it seems to be a very promising site and a novel concept. If you start your GMAT preparation early, get Grockit for practice questions.

All the best to Grockit :)

Grockit is what you make of it
I used Grockit to prepare for my GMAT exam. I mainly went through the solo practices and found the questions to be similar to the type found on the exam. I didn't do as well as I wanted to on the exam but that's because I didn't take advantage of what Grockit had to offer. I think that Grockit is a little unpolished compared to Kaplan or Princeton Review but it's still a useful tool.

    Great way to learn interactively!
I thought Grockit was a great way to learn new concepts, practice the ones I had learned, and challenge myself with new questions. The way the site is constantly interactive helps you go from question to question is much better than just trying to go through a book on your own. Not to mention the live help you get through questions in the rooms hosted by Grockit teachers! Some were even free, which was fantastic.

I can't say enough with how much this helped above and beyond what I could have gotten out of just a book.

best, most convenient, lowest cost study tool for GMAT test prep
I have been a satisfied user of grockit for the past several months. The fee for standard membership was more than reasonable, and the online collaboration integration is brilliant. I only wish I was more motivated to spend more time on it, so I could finally take the test.
The instant grading and categorization of question types and other stats are extremely helpful and time saving compared to doing this on paper out of a book.
